Abstract

Twenty patients with intestinal giardiasis, already resistant to 3-5 previous courses of oral metronidazole, were randomly distributed into 2 different groups: 10 subjects were given oral albendazole (440 mg/two times per day for 7 days) and 10 were submitted to the association of albendazole (400 mg/two times per day for 7 days) plus metronidazole (250 mg/three times per day for 7 days). All patients were evaluated both for clinical and parasitological status, immediately before and after therapy and, then, 4 weeks later. Only 3 patients of those treated with albendazole alone, showed a clinical and parasitological remission at the end of therapy, and one of them relapsed 4 weeks later. All patients who underwent albendazolemetronidazole association responded to the therapy and all except one were defined as "cured" 4 weeks later. Our study demonstrates that albendazole alone is not an effective therapeutic alternative for "metronidazole-resistant" giardiasis. The association of metronidazole plus albendazole seems synergic and deserves further studies.

I did this for 11 days in 2011 and finished just before Irene hurricane. It made me feel a bit better but I don't know If I had Giardia. I was diagnosed with only EH in 2012 by Cahil.

Here is the report I posted on curezone http://curezone.org/forums/fm.asp?i=1850611

Hello,

I did 11 days and I'm not sure if I should continue.
Its hard to tell if it really worked yet. If felt worse in the beginning of the treatment and a bit better near the end but not much better. Stools where loose and watery at all days I took the medicine, and the last two days they seem slightly better.
I was not expecting my stools to look healthy since they never do when I take such meds. It is possible it felt a bit better near the end because I switched from 4xd 500mg flagyl to 3xd on day 5. I was too nauseous to continue taking 4 x 500mg a day.

What I took should have been enough for giardia and amoeba but since I have a long history of not being able to kill those things I'm not sure if I should stop...
However, I don't really want to continue taking it since it makes me sleep more and its harder to get work done (which is usually already hard due to drowsiness etc... from the bugs).

I'm in a extremely difficult financial situation and need to be able to work as much as possible. Its been 6 years, I'm very scared and I hope this thing is gone once and for all!

The other reason I'm thinking of stopping is that I know those meds are hard on the body. It seems that the supplements have helped make the experience a bit easier. It does not look like I have worse white tongue then before and I only got significant tinnitus in the last couple of days. Maybe Sacharomyces Boulardii and other supplements helped make things easier. I like to see how my body is going to react without flagyl and albendazole...

Today is the 12 day and I haven't taking anything yet...
I will continue with the natural meds - Wheat germ, Sacharomyces Boulardii, enzymes, peper langum & Apo-lactoferrin at a lower dosage since I'm running out of them.

I appreciate any comments.

All the best
