Please contribute to this thread of products that have NOT worked.

*edit 10/2/2010  my note:  It is apparent that the commonly used supplements are having little to no effect:   Things that many have taken:

colloidial silver

any 'parasite herbal' containing black walnut etc.   and these go by many names

berberine containing supplements (goldenseal, coptis, coptis chinesis, oregon grape etc)

any oxidation such as h202 or MMS or even ozone :(

It is apparent that either drugs (must be a combination) or the South American herbs I posted or some homeopathic are going to work.

  • Chapparo Amargo (Mexican herb)

  • DiarEase from Himalya Herbs  (may have helped control)
includes Pomegranate bark which has been shown to control protozoa

  • Neem leaf

  • Essential oils of lavender, peppermint, franckincense etc.

  • Hydrogen Peroxide (35% food grade, taken orally)

That was my stuff, to be more specific,
the RX's  were Aliniol  (spelling?)
and Idoquinol (spelling?)
Didn't seem to have any effect.

Not sure what to do now.  I thought I had so many possibilites to try.  But over time, I have tried them all.  I also have bad yeast to deal with on top of it.

Oregono Oil

I'm sure I killed off some of the worms that I thought I had, although never confirmed by any tests no matter what I sent in...but now I'm still left with an itch that comes and goes.

Thanks for joining and thank you for posting your results, that helps all of us.

Could you clarify if you got the pptu diagnosis or just blasto?

Could you clarify about the drugs.  For instance I am curious how many combinations you tried, I see the triple drug (sec/bactrim/diloxinde) but the other instances of drugs were these 1 at a time?

Results from organika:

No success with the above combination. I gave up on the eighth day after feeling that it was putting a lot of stress on my body without any results.

Although I still have a batch of Flagyl, I am wary of taking something with it for the same reason. I think I'll hold off on the meds for a bit..

organika original post:
I am trying Furoxone, Fasigyn and Nitazoxinade along with Secnidazole for the first 3 days. I am on my 4th day and feel absolutely crap. I don't know if it is die off or reactions to the medication but I will try and stick with it for 10-14 days. I don't feel any relief in my bloating or with any other symptoms at this stage. It might still be early days but I have an intuitive feeling that what I'm doing isn't the answer. Will try and remain positive though

Clarifying my above post (mategaham)

- The drugs listed separately I took separately, and the drugs listed together I took together, with stool tests in between each new treatment to prove it didn't work (even though of course you can tell it didn't work because you still feel just as crappy!)

- These were all taken in trying to eliminate Blastocystis Hominis. I didn't have a PPTU diagnosis, only B Hominis, so perhaps I'm in the wrong forum. But, since they are equally impossible to get rid of and may or may not be related, I decided to post anyway.

- UPDATE: I'm tired of my life being ruined by these protozoa. I'm just finishing up a new 30-day treatment, that my husband and I call the Nuclear Approach. It's 10 days of one combo, 10 days of a slightly altered combo, and 10 days of a third combo. It is NOT an easy month or an easy treatment, but we figure a month's worth of misery is better than a lifetime of it so I am sucking it up. First 10 days are the "Australia combo" of Secnidazole (400 mg 3x/day), Diloxanide Furoate (500 mg 3x/day), and Bactrim DS (also called Septrim DS, or SMZ-TMP DS; the DS means Double Strength; 800/160 mg 2x/day.) Second 10 days are Nitazoxanide (also called Alinia; 500 mg 2x/day), Diloxanide Furoate again (500 mg 3x/day), and Bactrim DS again (800/160 mg 2x/day). Third combo is Tinidazole (also called Tindamax or Fasigyn; 500 mg, 4 tablets 1x/day), Paromomycin (also called Humatin; 250 mg, 2 pills 3x/day), and Bactrim DS again (800/160 mg 2x/day). Initial results: I feel better than I have in the past 4 years since contracting this bug. Diarrhea and the mental fogginess/dizziness are gone. I know there are many false hopes in our many treatments so I'll have to come back in a few months and let you know if the results still hold.

This latest 30-day experiment obviously isn't under doctor's orders, for the reasons you all know about: difficulty in identification, difficulty in being taken seriously, and lack of known effective treatments even if you do find a doctor that takes it seriously. I got most internationally except the Paromomycin which I had to get from a doctor because I couldn't find it anywhere else.

Thanks for posting this   (I like the name nuclear approach )  -  yes if you could keep us posted that would be great.   Paromomycin is the one drug that nobody has tried except for you.    Curedbycurezone post in the General section mentions this drug.   (for anyone else, I did find Paro from a legit Central American drug store that will ship outside the country).

Update on my "nuclear approach" (a big huge combo of drugs for 30 days to address Blastocystis hominis): Didn't work. For three weeks I felt great/fabulous/back to myself again -- the diarrhea stopped and the dizziness/cloudiness cleared and the fatigue disappeared -- but unfortunately it all came raging back. I wish I could have had a longer break.

I should note for the record that I paired the drug combo with a very strict diet of no carbs/no sugar/no cheese or yogurt, and I sterilized and sanitized the hell out of the house, in case either of those would help.

In addition to drug resistance and/or drug ineffectiveness, we must still be missing another part of the puzzle -- e.g. killing one form of the bug but missing another that then goes on to re-populate.

mategaham:   thanks so much for coming back to post  your results, it will help us all.   And I am sorry that the approach did not work :(    We will continue to look for new answers and try different approaches.

mategaham - sorry to hear of your results.  I too have been through the med combos that you have tried - also without success.  I believe the two missing ingredients are:

1. Efflux pump - whereby the parasite pumps out the drug - before absorption. There is plenty of research on this "resistance" mechanism.  I have recently experimented with an efflux pump inhibitor "quercetin", and this improved the performance of Iodoquinol.  However, you need to be careful using efflux pump inhibitors, and select drugs like Iodoquinol that aren't easily absorbed from the intestine.  Paramomycin is another that stays within the gut, although I haven't yet tried this with quercetin.  Possibly other resistance mechanisms in play, that need to be researched.

2. Immune evasion.  As discussed on another thread.  We need to work out how the parasite evades our immune system.  I have just ordered the immune boosting drug LDN - low dose naltrexone, and will report back on progress.  In saying that, the holy grail is to stop the mechanism by which the parasite evades our immune system in the first place - and this may be some form of protein coating on the surface of the parasite that makes the parasite invisible to the immune system.

As well as focussing on potential anti-parasitic drugs - we all need to look into "resistance mechanisms" and "immune evasion".  The solution to our problem lies here.

Thanks woodie for posting this.  I did not know about anything about efflux pumps, I have posted a related journal article in Zarr's room.

There seems to be some talk about quercitin inhibiting the efflux pumps but some stated that it did not seem to be effective, however I was able to find that liposomal quercitin works much better to pentrate other cells. perhaps it would pentrate the protective cell walls of the protozoa.  BTW  zarr posted some very good points about the oocyst (on curezone under shroom) on how it is the primary protector of the protozoa.   I will be experimenting with making lipsomes sometime this week, I will be starting with vitamin c and will begin to move over to other substances like herbals etc.

Hi Kaliputri,

As I mentioned in many posts before, the reason why we had failures is because of the delivery system and also the low dose. You can compare the size of a protozoa cell to a bacteria and you will be amazed that the protozoan cell is like 100 if not more the size of a bacteria.

Hi guys. new here. got PPTU and candida, also helmith infection on first MM lab (also low sIga). Took Albendazole/Mebendazole and Ivermectin for the helmith which was succesfull. Retest showed it was gone, but B. hominis popped up.. PPTU and candida still there. I have tried all of your usual herbal combinations. Only thing that seemed to provide any relief was oregano oil. Also tried probiotics, s boulardii, enemas etc. for candida. Have been on all digestive supports like hcl, enzymes, bile, etc. They do provide symptom relief.  Currently off them.

Took 6 day course of Alinia. after end of course felt very good then relapsed 50% within days. Started a 12-day course after a week off. If this doesn't work will try a much longer course. I've read in another forum for b. hominis it can take a 28-day course to get it with alinia. Considering adding Rifaximin, esp. if sibo test shows positive.

For support doing glutamine, probiotic enemas, vitamin c, magnesium, vitamin D, cod liver oil, coconut oil, iodine, and thyroid/dopamine agonists as needed. I've also tried psyillium husk mega-dosing in an attempt to mechanically flush them out, which may have helped. It at least produced some odd bowel movements first few times I tried it.

I just wanted to share the things I have tried that have failed to finally cure/heal me of my blastocystis infection. One thing to note is I have been diagnosed with several infections so some of these treatments were for those other infections (e. hystolitica, giardia etc), but I know from symptoms that I have had the blasto through all of this.

IBS Diet: no improvements

Specific Carbohydrate Diet: no improvements

Food allergy rotation diet: no improvements

Primal Defense by Garden of Life: barely tolerated

Goats milk yogurt: could not tolerate

Many probiotics – can no longer tolerate at all

Protese, SerraGold – tolerated both, only tool protese in combo with herbs

IBS/Antianxiety meds:

Bentyl (this was preblasto when I think the e.hystolitca was predominate): did nothing

Zoloft (as was this): did nothing

Buspar: greatly reduced stress but did nothing for diarrhea

Herbals etc:

Udarte(combo), Gozarte(combo), Paracitro(combo), Neo-parte (combo), phyll-martin(combo): these herbs were rotated and used over the course of almost a year, joint pain gone, c and d gone, inflammation gone, tolerated sugars and grains (although not fruits well) and when I went off of them all symptoms came back.

pau d’arco, artemisinin, Grapefruit seed extract, Viracleanz, Fungicleanz, para A herbal extract, frozen castor oil capsules, black walnut tincture, garlic, diatomaceous earth and many more etc

monastery of herbs protocols – this is the one worth expanding upon in another post

Oil of oregano – this is my favorite to just try and reduce the infection to be able to manage life

GI Microb-x – this was suggested to me by a nutrionist that has treated many people for blasto including himself. I would warn however that it is powerful and killed my entire gut flora population and gave me c.diff again, and did not kill the blasto.

Bentonite  clay – this is another item I have lived on for years to control the diarrhea – it usually helps

Homeopathic therapy:

Pleo Oku drops, Pleo Not drops, Pleo Fort drops: all taken during the same treatment – did nothing

Alternative therapies:

Acupuncture, Reikki, Cranial sacral, Yoga, hypnosis, one NAET treatment across my c-section scar, vitamin iv’s for malnutrition etc, heavy metal chelation, low dose naltaxone, etc……energy work especially Reikki and Cranial sacral help with stress, tension, feelings of losing control and energy levels, but did nothing for food intolerance's and chronic pain and LDN reduced inflammation and gut pain and swelling but was still completely intolerant to food. Eventual plan is to take this while taking a drug protocol.

  • Flagyl 375 mg 10 days
  • Nitazoxanide: 500 mg; 2 times a day for 10 days
  • Augementin; 875mg;every 12 hours for 3 days, Followed by…Cipro; 750 mg every 12 hours for 3 days, Followed by…..Sporanox; 2 capsules twice a day for 21 days….Grapefruit seed extract swish and swallow for 21 days, Followed by…..Penn vk ; for 3 days
  • Humatin: 250mg; 3times a day for 10 days in combo with Doxycycline: 50mg;2 times a day for 10days ( this was specifically Rx for e. hystolitica – cleared that infection but still tested positive for blasto)
  • Tinidazole: do not have dosage mg; for 10 days (I believe this was for giardia or endolimax nana both of those have cleared but not blasto)
  • Rifaximin: 600 mg; 3times a day for 20 days
  • Nitazoxanide: 1000 mg; 2 times a day for 10 days
  • Furazolindone: 100 mg 3 times a day for 10 days in combo with Nitazoxanide: 500 mg; 2 times a day for 10 days
  • Vancomycin 250 mg 3 times a day in combo with Rifampicin 150 mg for 10 days – this was prep meds for treating c.diff but wanted to mention I have been on vanco for a combined total of two years treating c.diff and this antibiotic does not affect parasites.
  • Furazolindone: 100 mg 3 times a day for 10 days in combo with yodoxin(iodoquinol) 650 mg 3 times a day in combo with bactrim missing dose for 10 days.

This is the majority of my attempts. I have a few other things but all failures. Single treatments have not worked. I have only done one triple treatment. I absolutely cannot stand NTZ (Nitazoxanide that I first got with an Rx from daair before available in the US that is how long I have been trying to kill this) I have tried it several more times than identified here and it is does not work for me and makes me so sick I cannot leave the bathroom floor.

This is treatment over 10 year span with an active blasto infection for 13 years.
