Stevia is a plant based sweetener but has strong antibiotic properties, enough to kill the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease   B. burgdorferi is the bacteria responsible for Lyme disease and is well known to be difficult to eradicate due to a number of factors including morphing (ability to change life forms). However as a side note, there are a number of pathogens that can mimic b. burgdorferi in which these patients will receive a false negative. Aggressive pathogens will cause havoc in the body which means that a Lyme diagnosis is subjective (can be caused by another organism).  The study shows that human studies have not been completed. Keep in mind that all plants have an immune system and many herbs and spices are known for the antibiotic activity. *The tested stevia was an alcohol extract.
