Good find troyza - they should include that any toxin will affect mitochondria. The toxins from pathogens (any) will cause this for sure. Toxic shock syndrome is just vast toxins produced by bacterial infection.  I have read that this is one of the hallmarks of a pathogen, one that causes systemic poisoning. Everyone I know who has chronic infection also has impaired detoxification, it is an ongoing problem. So your post makes sense in that the toxins are creating a mitochondria hell.  And let us not forget that the oxidative stress caused is immense which further damages cells and organs thus making the entire system faulty.

Vitamin C is a life saver along with bulk charcoal to sweep out the toxins, these are just 2 of the things that help. ebrooker has a unique protocol which he shared with me, perhaps he will post it here.

Here is a nice article about mitochondria and their roles in our cells http://www.newcastle-mitochondria.com/mitochondria/what-do-mitochondria-do/

Another article discussing how mitochondrial dysfunction will create cognitive problems which many people with chronic infections or environmental poisoning have. http://www.cchrflorida.org/blog/mitochondrial-disease-and-psychiatric-disorders/
